This species was first described by Melichar L. in 1898 in the following paper: Vorläufige Beschreibnungen neuer Ricaniiden. Verhandlungen der Kaiserlich-Königlichen Zoologisch-botanischen Gesellschaft in Wien. Wien, 48: 384-400.
It is currently classified in order Hemiptera Linné, 1758, suborder Fulgoromorpha Evans, 1946, superfamily Fulgoroidea Latreille, 1807, family Ricaniidae Amyot & Audinet-Serville, 1843, subfamily Ricaniinae Amyot & Audinet-Serville, 1843, genus Ricania Germar, 1818.
Ricania morula is an extant taxon.
2. Ricania morula Melichar, 1898 geographical distribution and bioregions
According to the geographical TDWG standard (2001), Ricania morula Melichar, 1898 are known from the Afrotropical biogeographical region as defined by Wallace (1876). More precisely, they are distributed in the African and Guineo-Congolian zoogeographic regions as defined by Holt (2013). Figures 1 and 2 display dynamic graphs showcasing the longitudinal and latitudinal profiles of Ricania morula Melichar, 1898 arround the across the globe according to their species richness. A scroll on the histogram bars displays the species richness of the corresponding regions.
3. Ricania morula Melichar, 1898 biological interactions
As all planthoppers, Ricania morula Melichar, 1898 are obligatory phytophagous terrestrial insects.
