1. Melanoliarus quinquelineatus (Say, 1830) taxonomy
Melanoliarus quinquelineatus (Say, 1830) is currently considered as a valid taxon of species rank in the family Cixiidae Spinola, 1839 of the Fulgoromorpha. This species was first described by Say T. in 1830 in the following paper: Descriptions of new north American Hemipterous insects, belonging to the first family of the section Homoptera of Latreille. Journal of the Academy of Natural Sciences of Philadelphia, 6: 235-244.
It is currently classified in order Hemiptera Linné, 1758, suborder Fulgoromorpha Evans, 1946, superfamily Delphacoidea Leach, 1815, family Cixiidae Spinola, 1839, subfamily Cixiinae Spinola, 1839, tribe Pentastirini Emeljanov, 1971, subtribe Pentastirina Emeljanov, 1971, genus Melanoliarus Fennah, 1945.
Melanoliarus quinquelineatus is an extant taxon.
2. Melanoliarus quinquelineatus (Say, 1830) geographical distribution and bioregions
According to the geographical TDWG standard (2001), Melanoliarus quinquelineatus (Say, 1830) are known from the Nearctic biogeographical region as defined by Wallace (1876). More precisely, they are distributed in the North American zoogeographic region as defined by Holt (2013). Figures 1 and 2 display dynamic graphs showcasing the longitudinal and latitudinal profiles of Melanoliarus quinquelineatus (Say, 1830) arround the across the globe according to their species richness. A scroll on the histogram bars displays the species richness of the corresponding regions.
3. Melanoliarus quinquelineatus (Say, 1830) biological interactions
As all planthoppers, Melanoliarus quinquelineatus (Say, 1830) are obligatory phytophagous terrestrial insects.
