1. Saiva cardinalis (Butler, 1874) taxonomy

Saiva cardinalis (Butler, 1874) is currently considered as a valid taxon of species rank in the family Fulgoridae Latreille, 1807 of the Fulgoromorpha. This species was first described by Butler A. G. in 1874 in the following paper: Description of two new species of Fulgora from India. Annals and Magazine of Natural History. London. (Ser. 4), 14: 131-132.

It is currently classified in order Hemiptera Linné, 1758, suborder Fulgoromorpha Evans, 1946, superfamily Fulgoroidea Latreille, 1807, family Fulgoridae Latreille, 1807, subfamily Fulgorinae Latreille, 1807, tribe Laternariini Distant, 1906, genus Saiva Distant, 1906.

Saiva cardinalis is an extant taxon.

2. Saiva cardinalis (Butler, 1874) geographical distribution and bioregions

According to the geographical TDWG standard (2001), Saiva cardinalis (Butler, 1874) are known from the Oriental and Palaearctic biogeographical regions as defined by Wallace (1876). More precisely, they are distributed in the Oriental and Tibetan zoogeographic regions as defined by Holt (2013). Figures 1 and 2 display dynamic graphs showcasing the longitudinal and latitudinal profiles of Saiva cardinalis (Butler, 1874) arround the across the globe according to their species richness. A scroll on the histogram bars displays the species richness of the corresponding regions.

3. Saiva cardinalis (Butler, 1874) biological interactions

As all planthoppers, Saiva cardinalis (Butler, 1874) are obligatory phytophagous terrestrial insects.
