Phypia ornatifrons Jacobi, 1910 is currently considered as a valid taxon of species rank in the family Achilidae Stål, 1866 of the Fulgoromorpha. This species was first described by Jacobi A. in 1910 in the following paper: 12 Hemiptera. 7 Homoptera. Wissenschaftliche ergebnisse der Schwedischen Zoologischen Expedition nach dem Kilimandjaro, dem Meru und den Umgebenden Massaisreppen Deutsch-Ostafrikas 1905-1906. Schwedischen Akademie der wissenschaften, 1910: 97-136.
It is currently classified in order Hemiptera Linné, 1758, suborder Fulgoromorpha Evans, 1946, superfamily Fulgoroidea Latreille, 1807, family Achilidae Stål, 1866, subfamily Myconinae Fennah, 1950, tribe Plectoderini Fennah, 1950, genus Phypia Stål, 1862.
Phypia ornatifrons is an extant taxon.
2. Phypia ornatifrons Jacobi, 1910 geographical distribution and bioregions
According to the geographical TDWG standard (2001), Phypia ornatifrons Jacobi, 1910 are known from the Afrotropical biogeographical region as defined by Wallace (1876). More precisely, they are distributed in the African and Guineo-Congolian zoogeographic regions as defined by Holt (2013). Figures 1 and 2 display dynamic graphs showcasing the longitudinal and latitudinal profiles of Phypia ornatifrons Jacobi, 1910 arround the across the globe according to their species richness. A scroll on the histogram bars displays the species richness of the corresponding regions.
3. Phypia ornatifrons Jacobi, 1910 biological interactions
As all planthoppers, Phypia ornatifrons Jacobi, 1910 are obligatory phytophagous terrestrial insects.
