M. in 1925 in the following paper: A review of the Hawaiian Cixidae, with descriptions of species (Homoptera). Proceedings of the Hawaiian Entomological Society. Honolulu, 6: 51-171.

It is currently classified in order Hemiptera Linné, 1758, suborder Fulgoromorpha Evans, 1946, superfamily Delphacoidea Leach, 1815, family Cixiidae Spinola, 1839, subfamily Cixiinae Spinola, 1839, tribe Pentastirini Emeljanov, 1971, subtribe Pentastirina Emeljanov, 1971, genus Oliarus Stål, 1862.
