Waorania jaguarina Gnezdilov & Bartlett, 2018 is currently considered as a valid taxon of species rank in the family Issidae Spinola, 1839 of the Fulgoromorpha. This species was first described by Bartlett C. R. and Gnezdilov V. M. in 2018 in the following paper: A new genus and two new species of the family Issidae (Hemiptera, Auchenorrhyncha: Fulgoroidea) from Amazonian Ecuador. Proceedings of the Entomological Society of Washington, 120(1) : 62-75.
It is currently classified in order Hemiptera Linné, 1758, suborder Fulgoromorpha Evans, 1946, superfamily Fulgoroidea Latreille, 1807, family Issidae Spinola, 1839, subfamily Thioniinae Melichar, 1906, tribe Thioniini Melichar, 1906, subtribe Waoraniina Gnezdilov & Bartlett, 2018, genus Waorania Gnezdilov & Bartlett, 2018, and it represents the type species for its genus.
Waorania jaguarina is an extant taxon.
2. Waorania jaguarina Gnezdilov & Bartlett, 2018 geographical distribution and bioregions
According to the geographical TDWG standard (2001), Waorania jaguarina Gnezdilov & Bartlett, 2018 are known from the Neotropical biogeographical region as defined by Wallace (1876). More precisely, they are distributed in the Amazonian zoogeographic region as defined by Holt (2013). Figures 1 and 2 display dynamic graphs showcasing the longitudinal and latitudinal profiles of Waorania jaguarina Gnezdilov & Bartlett, 2018 arround the across the globe according to their species richness. A scroll on the histogram bars displays the species richness of the corresponding regions.
