S. in 1947 in the following paper: New species of Oliarus Stål from Southwestern United States and Mexico (Homoptera: Cixiidae). Pan-Pacific Entomologist. San Francisco, 23(4) : 145-151.

It is currently classified in order Hemiptera Linné, 1758, suborder Fulgoromorpha Evans, 1946, superfamily Delphacoidea Leach, 1815, family Cixiidae Spinola, 1839, subfamily Cixiinae Spinola, 1839, tribe Pentastirini Emeljanov, 1971, subtribe Pentastirina Emeljanov, 1971, genus Oliarus Stål, 1862.
