1. Trigava O'Brien, 1999 taxonomy

Trigava O'Brien, 1999 is currently considered as a valid taxon of genus rank in the family Dictyopharidae Spinola, 1839 of the Fulgoromorpha. This genus was first described by O'Brien L. B. in 1999 in the following paper: New species of Toropa and Igava and a new genus, Trigava gen. n. (Hemiptera: Auchenorrhyncha: Fulgoromorpha: Dictyopharidae). Reichenbachia, 33(1) : 55-60.

It is currently classified in order Hemiptera Linné, 1758, suborder Fulgoromorpha Evans, 1946, superfamily Fulgoroidea Latreille, 1807, family Dictyopharidae Spinola, 1839, subfamily Dictyopharinae Spinola, 1839, tribe Nersiini Emeljanov, 1983.

Currently 4 species have been described in Trigava, as summarized in Table 1.

The type species of the genus is Trigava brachycephala (Melichar, 1912).

Trigava is an extant taxon.

2. Trigava O'Brien, 1999 geographical distribution and bioregions

According to the geographical TDWG standard (2001), Trigava O'Brien, 1999 are known from the Neotropical biogeographical region as defined by Wallace (1876). More precisely, they are distributed in the Amazonian zoogeographic region as defined by Holt (2013). Figures 1 and 2 display dynamic graphs showcasing the longitudinal and latitudinal profiles of Trigava O'Brien, 1999 arround the across the globe according to their species richness. A scroll on the histogram bars displays the species richness of the corresponding regions.

3. Trigava O'Brien, 1999 biological interactions

As all planthoppers, Trigava O'Brien, 1999 are obligatory phytophagous terrestrial insects.
